There are a few mountains in the area for you to scale. Mt. Elwell, our closest, is 7,818 feet. The Sierra Buttes is spectacular at 8,587 feet and has a climb to a Forest Service lookout tower at its peak. There are also Mills Peak, an active lookout tower at 7,342 feet, and Haskell Peak, 8,107 feet, all within the Plumas and Tahoe National Forests and close by the Lodge. Mt. Elwell is a three mile hike to the top starting the trail right from the Lodge. The others require a short drive to their trailheads.
